National Geographic has an article on an unusual example of religious veneration (link to article). In this case, the object of veneration is a large rat colony. It’s a great example of this verse:

Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
